Small Steps Create Big Shifts
Today, I had the opportunity to visit Year 8 students at Sacred Heart College with a new package focused on connection.
We spent time reflecting on the qualities we value in true friendships, and then turned that reflection inward, asking whether we are also showing the same compassion, respect, and love to others. It opened up some really honest conversations about what connection actually looks like.
We also explored some of the ongoing gaps in mainstream society around disability and inclusion, and how these gaps are often not created by one big moment, but by a collection of smaller assumptions, missed opportunities, or lack of awareness. From there, we discussed how small steps can begin to shift those patterns in meaningful ways, through language, conversation, and everyday actions.
In finishing, we spoke about how real impact often comes from the smaller moments where you choose to show up, to include, to listen; it’s in these moments that matter more than we realise. They can build lifelong friendships, create a sense of belonging, or quietly change someone’s entire world in ways you may never fully see.
Remember, it's in those smaller moments where you choose to show up.
